As you may already know currently in Canada:
Starting with greater public awareness and education we can remove these stigmas surrounding mood disorders. To achieve this Sunnybrook has developed a new campaign focusing on education and awareness. By working together we can help remove the stigmas around mental illness and break down the barriers to treatment. You can help show support for families, friends and communities by taking part in “Let’s Face This. Confront the stigma of mental illness”.
What is “Let’s Face This”?
“Let’s Face This” is a grassroots, viral campaign to help raise awareness and education of mental health research. To maximize exposure and leverage existing activities, the campaign is taking place during Mental Illness Awareness Week, October 6th to the 11th. It encompasses several awareness initiatives, including guerilla marketing, online social media strategies and distribution of materials at various outlets, all designed to drive traffic back to a central website, www.letsfacethis.ca (site launches Oct 6th)
Once on the website visitors are encouraged to upload their ‘face’ and write support messages for those suffering from mental illness. The website is a dynamic, interactive collage in the shape of a tree, with each photo forming a leaf. The tree symbolizes growing awareness, education, fundraising and hope for the general public as well as those affected by mental illness. The site also features strong components for education, donations and awareness of Sunnybrook’s mental health programs.
How To Get Involved?
We can provide posters, post cards, e-blasts and campaign write-ups for newsletters to suit your needs. In recognition, if you choose to support this program we will also list you on the site “supporter’s” page. We are extremely excited about the launch of “Let’s Face This” and we know that with your help it will be a success. By increasing awareness and education we can confront stigmas associated with mental illness.
Please don’t hesitate to contact Seka with any questions, requests, concerns or if you would like to discuss your involvement in “Let’s Face This. Confront the stigmas of mental illness”.
